L’8 Aprile 2020 crolla il ponte sul fiume Magra che collega la Liguria e la Toscana. Il ponte di solito molto trafficato, a causa del lockdown per Covid 19, era praticamente deserto, a parte un furgone del corriere Bartolini. Solo due persone sono rimaste coinvolte, senza gravi conseguenze. L’ANAS, responsabile della gestione dal novembre 2018, dopo alcune perizie e controlli tecnici, su segnalazione della popolazione che aveva notato crepe nella struttura, ha dichiarato che non avevano evidenziato problemi strutturali e che era tutto sotto controllo. La Procura della Repubblica di Massa Carrara ha iscritto nel registro degli indagati diciassette persone per disastro colposo.
