Viareggio, la “Perla della Versilia” non è soltanto una rinomata, sin dal 1800, località di villeggiatura balneare, ma possiede anche antiche tradizioni di marineria, in particolare nel rischioso campo dei palombari e dei lavori subacquei. Ma é soprattutto nella cantieristica navale che si è imposta a livello mondiale: cantieri dai nomi famosi: Baglietto, Perini, Benetti, Overmarine e molti altri, che costruiscono i super-yacht di super-lusso tanto apprezzati da miliardari russi e petrolieri arabi. E’ un’economia che supera forse quella del turismo, con una grande quantità di indotto, e che ha avuto la sua recente consacrazione con la prima edizione del “Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous”, salone nautico strappato a quello storico di Genova, ma solo per “barche” superiori ai 20 metri, appunto.
