Arturo é il nomignolo con cui tutti, sostenitori e detrattori, hanno sempre chiamato il reattore della centrale nucleare di Caorso, la piu grande, la più moderna di quelle italiane. Ha funzionato per soli quattro anni: dal 1981 al 1986, poi é stata fermata dalla volontà popolare che si é espressa contro la scelta energetica del nucleare coi due referendum del 1987 e del 2011. Oggi l’ingombrante presenza, insieme alle altre centrali di Trino Vercellese, Garigliano e Latina é stata presa in carico dalla Sogin, la società di Stato responsabile del “decommissioning” degli impianti nucleari italiani e della gestione dei rifiuti radioattivi. Sogin ha intrapreso recentemente una operazione di trasparenza, aprendo le porte delle centrali alla stampa ed al pubblico, evidentemente in previsione della scelta del luogo per realizzare Il Deposito Nazionale per lo smaltimento dei rifiuti radioattivi, scelta che si presenta assai problematica.
Arturo is the nickname by which everyone, supporters and detractors have always called the reactor of the nuclear power plant of Caorso, the largest, the most modern of Italy. It worked for only four years: from 1981 to 1986, then has been stopped by the will of the people that is expressed against the choice of nuclear energy with the two referendums in 1987 and 2011. Today the cumbersome presence, along with other centrals of Trino Vercellese, Latina and Garigliano has been taken over by Sogin, the state company responsible for the “decommissioning” of Italian nuclear installations and radioactive waste management. Sogin has recently embarked on an operation of transparency, opening the doors of power plants to the press and the public, apparently in anticipation of the choice of location to achieve the National Deposit for disposal of radioactive waste, a choice that looks very problematic .
